LITHOSPHERE:

The Rocks & Roots Series

A Dialogue with Nature, Time, & Emotions

In a world obsessed with speed and perfection, this series is an act of slowing down & being present.

Origin

The journey began in Woodstock, NY, with a realization: the earth beneath our feet holds more history than we realize. This series documents a global foraging journey—bringing the outside in. It is a study in alchemy, transforming raw geology into emotional topography.

Lithosphere is an ongoing exploration of sustainable art practices and the stability of natural pigments.

THE GLOBAL PALETTE Instead of synthetic tubes, the colors are drawn from memory and geography:

  • 🪨 Woodstock Red Slate (The Foundation)

  • 🌕 Indian Turmeric (The Light)

  • 🌋 Costa Rican Volcanic Ash (The Life)

  • 🌱 American Beetroot (The Line)

THE PROCESS

A TRIAD OF CREATION

I. SURRENDER:

A Dialogue with Gravity

Art requires knowing when to lose control. In this phase, I step back. I pour the handmade pigments onto the canvas and allow gravity and the slope of the land to dictate the flow. The resulting vertical stains recall tree bark, sedimentary layers, and tear streaks—textures that human hands alone cannot replicate.

II. TRANSFORMATION:

The Passage of Time

The artwork is exposed to the elements. Sunlight interacts with the biological pigments, shifting the tones and baking the texture into the canvas. This phase honors nature as a co-creator, allowing the environment to leave its mark on the work.

III. INTUITION

Following the Flow

This stage is about discovery. Using a fine liner and pigments derived from Costa Rican rock, I follow the path nature has already laid down. I let my intuition guide the pen, weaving lines through the organic stains in a spirit of play and curiosity. It is about going with the flow and enjoying the rhythm of the shapes that emerge.

Each piece in the Lithosphere series is a unique map of a specific time and place.
